[00:00:00 - 00:00:03] I have unfortunate news for basically everybody ever okay hit me
[00:00:04 - 00:00:08] Not really everybody ever just Marvel fans and really cinema fans
[00:00:09 - 00:00:11] Yeah, we're cooked
[00:00:11 - 00:00:17] Well, we're capital C capital O capital O capital K capital E capital D cooked
[00:00:17 - 00:00:20] You know why drew why hit me tell me why because Avengers doomsday
[00:00:20 - 00:00:25] Looks just as bad as I had suspected and I really hoped it wouldn't be you know
[00:00:26 - 00:00:30] I'm going to restrain myself. Okay, because we said this for the Odyssey
[00:00:30 - 00:00:34] I should not judge a movie fully true before we've seen it. I'm going to keep receipts
[00:00:35 - 00:00:37] But I watched this trailer and you know what I felt
[00:00:38 - 00:00:40] Absolutely, nothing. I felt nothing. Yeah
[00:00:41 - 00:00:45] Drew, what did you think of the new Avengers doomsday trailer? I think I felt a little more
[00:00:46 - 00:00:48] Something a little more nothing. Oh, no
[00:00:49 - 00:00:51] Little less nothing a little less nothing
[00:00:51 - 00:00:58] But I felt more nothing than I thought I would as a bigger mobile fan than you yeah, and like this sounds like I'm just a hater
[00:00:58 - 00:01:04] I'm really not like I want Avengers doomsday to be good. I want the MCU to be good. I quite liked Wonder Man, right?
[00:01:04 - 00:01:09] That's kind of I like strong. She that's kind of it. Yeah, I mean, I haven't liked a lot of the stuff recently
[00:01:09 - 00:01:12] I didn't love Fantastic Four, but you know what you're gonna love
[00:01:12 - 00:01:18] Well, I brand new day I might it's gonna be awesome, but that's another podcast subscribe to our podcast
[00:01:18 - 00:01:22] Welcome back to someone line a fireside film podcast subscribe to it if you're into our vibe here
[00:01:22 - 00:01:29] It's true. We're talking about the new doomsday trailer, but yeah, I felt nothing drew and like I think that's my concern
[00:01:29 - 00:01:34] It was a lot of CGI. Yeah, which is kind of to be expected, but it kind of felt like
[00:01:35 - 00:01:39] Like, you know when you're a kid and you have toys
[00:01:40 - 00:01:46] But like they're like kind of hand me down and it's kind of just like an amalgamation of random characters
[00:01:46 - 00:01:50] Yes, and then you like play with them, but there's no continuity in your head
[00:01:50 - 00:01:52] so like you're just fighting with everybody and
[00:01:53 - 00:01:57] Friggin the Hulk is fighting Gandalf and it doesn't make any sense, but like you're a kid
[00:01:57 - 00:02:01] So you don't give it you don't give a crap might be the best analogy you've ever given on this
[00:02:01 - 00:02:07] That's kind of how this trailer feels of like oh look it's a mystique fighting Elena. That's cool. Oh gambit's fighting Shang-Chi
[00:02:08 - 00:02:09] Okay, fine
[00:02:09 - 00:02:12] The one thing they gave me life
[00:02:13 - 00:02:14] What's Thor?
[00:02:14 - 00:02:16] Yeah, I could get behind that
[00:02:16 - 00:02:23] He's probably the strongest part of this in my opinion very weak trailer. I agree and like everybody's like, oh, it's just a trailer or whatever
[00:02:23 - 00:02:28] That's yeah, you're so right. You know what this is supposed to be heralded as though
[00:02:28 - 00:02:33] This is supposed to be the trailer for what Disney wants you to think is going to be the biggest movie of the year
[00:02:33 - 00:02:38] True for what Disney wants you to think is the saving grace of the MCU and the superhero genre as we know it
[00:02:38 - 00:02:43] Yeah, and so this trailer is not very good in my opinion and that does matter. It does matter. I think I
[00:02:44 - 00:02:48] Mean we've said a million times this movie has to be good or else Marvel's cooked
[00:02:49 - 00:02:51] And you know what I predict?
[00:02:51 - 00:02:53] Marvel to be cooked
[00:02:53 - 00:02:59] No, but like I'm going to actually give reasoning honestly like that trailer was bad like no
[00:02:59 - 00:03:03] I don't care about any of these characters and that's been my issue with the MCU post in game
[00:03:03 - 00:03:07] Okay, I still don't care about any of these characters. I've seen their movies. Mm-hmm like I don't care
[00:03:07 - 00:03:12] I don't care that I see Petra Pascal on screen. I don't and like I
[00:03:12 - 00:03:16] Don't know. I don't know what the difference is. I don't I can't quantify it
[00:03:16 - 00:03:20] But I just feel nothing compared to I remember watching the Avengers
[00:03:20 - 00:03:23] I guess it would have been infinity war trailer in high school
[00:03:23 - 00:03:28] Yeah, it'd be so excited and worried for my characters that I love right. I don't care about these characters
[00:03:29 - 00:03:32] I think that's true. My question to you and you don't have to have an answer
[00:03:33 - 00:03:36] Howdy if you are Marvel and you've currently cooked
[00:03:37 - 00:03:43] I don't even know. Let's say 20 projects since a game that no one really cares about. What do you do?
[00:03:45 - 00:03:47] Cry
[00:03:47 - 00:03:49] No, I would meet defeat you wave the white flag. No
[00:03:51 - 00:03:55] No, here's why I think you say like hey, we're going to make one last movie
[00:03:55 - 00:03:58] That's the actual end of everything. Well, that's kind of what they're doing
[00:03:58 - 00:04:03] No, but like they're still I mean, yes, they kind of have their saga. Yes, you're kind of right
[00:04:03 - 00:04:09] But like just do one more movie and be done. Don't do too. This is this is saying like hey
[00:04:09 - 00:04:12] We're going to do a few more movies after this. That's what they've said with doomsday like
[00:04:13 - 00:04:17] Doomsday is the start of the end or the start of raise your or whatever the Frick we're calling it
[00:04:18 - 00:04:20] I'm like, no, just do one movie and be done. Like I
[00:04:21 - 00:04:24] Don't know that's the thing like I don't know what they should have done
[00:04:24 - 00:04:30] But we're so far down their path of errors that I don't know if there's any way of saving it
[00:04:32 - 00:04:34] Yes, I
[00:04:35 - 00:04:37] Do agree
[00:04:37 - 00:04:42] Which kind of hurts me to say yeah, I want to hear more of your thoughts as a bigger Marvel fan than me
[00:04:42 - 00:04:44] I
[00:04:44 - 00:04:48] Mean like a Thor's monologue. I thought was awesome. I thought Chris. I'm good
[00:04:49 - 00:04:51] He is the only part of the trailer that I was like
[00:04:52 - 00:04:58] Sick awesome. I mean I thought the action sequences were fine. I felt absolutely nothing seeing Chris Evans return
[00:04:59 - 00:05:05] Which is sad, but it is sad and also like it's just been deluded by culture, right?
[00:05:05 - 00:05:08] Wait, you keep talking. I have so many more though. Oh, no, I think you're right
[00:05:08 - 00:05:11] I think it's like at this point the the
[00:05:12 - 00:05:18] Return cameo is so broken and it's lost all flavor that I'm like
[00:05:19 - 00:05:23] It is I can see it for exactly what it is and it's just a cheap
[00:05:24 - 00:05:27] cash-grab that Marvel's throwing at us to get our butts in the seats and
[00:05:28 - 00:05:30] I
[00:05:30 - 00:05:32] Mean again kind of how it felt already J
[00:05:32 - 00:05:36] Which we still haven't seen we still haven't seen our base on screen yet
[00:05:36 - 00:05:40] Which I kind of thought we would but we didn't I thought the moment where Thor
[00:05:41 - 00:05:44] Swung a doom and he stopped him with two fingers was cool
[00:05:44 - 00:05:49] Here's another problem that I have with this movie and again. It's not necessary
[00:05:49 - 00:05:52] It's not really Marvel's fault, but it kind of is
[00:05:53 - 00:05:55] when it came to Thanos we had
[00:05:56 - 00:06:02] Probably like five post-credits scenes and guardians to like kind of build up anticipation
[00:06:02 - 00:06:05] Yeah, it wasn't he at the end of the first Avengers movie
[00:06:06 - 00:06:10] And the second one. He definitely wasn't the second one. I think he was at the end of the first one, too
[00:06:11 - 00:06:15] Maybe you know, he was I think he is yeah, I think he's in it
[00:06:15 - 00:06:21] I mean it's been a while we will do an Avengers rewatch towards November, but so like there was hype and there was a
[00:06:22 - 00:06:27] Level of like oh my gosh. This guy looks intimidating. Yes for doom
[00:06:27 - 00:06:31] We've had absolutely nothing. Well wait also to add on really quick
[00:06:31 - 00:06:36] Okay, the infinity stones were also sprinkled through right you prior to infinity work
[00:06:36 - 00:06:39] I watched age of ultra on the other day just kind of on a whim
[00:06:39 - 00:06:44] The amount of setup for infinity war. There's a lot is insane. There's a lot
[00:06:45 - 00:06:46] Yeah, I think
[00:06:46 - 00:06:52] What what I'm trying to get out with this trailer is like it's going it's already harping a little bit on like this
[00:06:53 - 00:06:55] Nostalgia wave right for the MCU
[00:06:55 - 00:07:01] Which it's not like Star Wars. It's not like when the Force Waking trailer came out and Han Tui came out
[00:07:01 - 00:07:03] I was like oh my gosh like these are characters
[00:07:03 - 00:07:08] We haven't seen on screen in 30 years, which I know I wasn't alive then but like these are the characters, right?
[00:07:08 - 00:07:10] It's not right. It's not you know, you'd have that I
[00:07:10 - 00:07:15] Mean in game was seven years ago. Yeah, like it's not been that long
[00:07:15 - 00:07:22] And also it's the point in Hollywood and culture where we can see when everybody's just trying to nostalgia bait
[00:07:22 - 00:07:27] And this is the same thing and I will say this the Russo brothers have said
[00:07:28 - 00:07:33] Granted this is in an interview. So like the grand assault, but they've said that they didn't bring RDJ back
[00:07:34 - 00:07:37] From just let me finish my sentence. I know I know I'm letting you talk
[00:07:38 - 00:07:43] They didn't bring RDJ back for nostalgia and there's like a very specific reason and I'm like, okay
[00:07:43 - 00:07:45] That's all well and good. You can say whatever you want an interview
[00:07:46 - 00:07:51] But at this point in the game where we are four months out from your movie you have to start proving
[00:07:52 - 00:07:56] What you say strong leave you said that strange things five was the best season of strange things
[00:07:56 - 00:08:02] He did say that the best finale. He's ever seen I we are I honestly there's a lot of comparison
[00:08:02 - 00:08:05] It seems like two doomsday and stranger things
[00:08:05 - 00:08:12] Just like on a vibe level and like what they're saying in interviews that Shawn leave he's kind of been in both those universes, too
[00:08:12 - 00:08:14] That's true. He has
[00:08:15 - 00:08:17] But
[00:08:17 - 00:08:24] At this point if you're Marvel, you know, the cultural conversation is it's all nostalgia and like
[00:08:25 - 00:08:30] You know the rumors around your movie of what they are at least you should as a studio well
[00:08:30 - 00:08:32] And then you put out a trailer that
[00:08:32 - 00:08:34] doesn't really say anything
[00:08:35 - 00:08:37] It feels like a questionable move
[00:08:37 - 00:08:43] Now I will say like I was thinking about I guess it would have been if in your the other day
[00:08:45 - 00:08:47] Like I think the setup for that movie is really good
[00:08:47 - 00:08:53] I think like they find a decent way to get all these characters in the same spot to do stuff
[00:08:53 - 00:08:55] Like how they have to defend Wakanda
[00:08:56 - 00:08:59] Because visions there, right or like that was kind of the idea. Yeah
[00:09:00 - 00:09:04] Like that's an okay way to get all these characters to this place, right?
[00:09:04 - 00:09:09] I'm not sure we're going to have a lot of like great reasons to get all these characters together
[00:09:09 - 00:09:15] Like it already feels a little bit like a gimmick in the original Avengers movies, which is okay
[00:09:15 - 00:09:19] Like they are what they are and I still think they're borderline greats, but
[00:09:19 - 00:09:24] For this I'm like, how are we going to get all these characters together in a way that really feels like it's not just a
[00:09:24 - 00:09:30] Cash-grab and trying to get all your favorite characters on screen again. I think they're gonna say oh my gosh
[00:09:30 - 00:09:34] Doom is the most powerful person ever. He's gonna kill us. We have to we have to take him down
[00:09:34 - 00:09:40] We need everybody and I mean they kind of said that in the trailer of like we all have to be friends and not fight each other
[00:09:40 - 00:09:42] which I'm like I
[00:09:42 - 00:09:48] Mean I have a whole so many issues like a why are we fighting each other be like maybe there's comic reasons that I haven't read
[00:09:49 - 00:09:52] And maybe it'll all be explained in the movie and make perfect sense, but I'm like
[00:09:53 - 00:09:59] None of these characters have beef with each other because they've never met each other, so I'm like
[00:10:00 - 00:10:02] It feels very
[00:10:02 - 00:10:09] Forced this whole movie feels forced. Yeah from like every angle. I completely agree. I mean I also think about I
[00:10:10 - 00:10:13] I mean, I don't even know where to start with this movie
[00:10:13 - 00:10:18] Honestly, like I I want to like this movie and I'm going to go in I do clear out my expectations
[00:10:19 - 00:10:26] But with this movie specifically like there's been stuff that's been said and I just don't think that it's actually gonna happen
[00:10:26 - 00:10:32] Like for example, the Russo said at one point. We are going to emphasize practical like
[00:10:33 - 00:10:35] Stuff cinematography effects everything. I
[00:10:36 - 00:10:40] Saw not that much of that in this trailer
[00:10:40 - 00:10:43] Which maybe they're like, oh, we'll just put all the best CGI shots in the movie
[00:10:44 - 00:10:47] But like it just like we didn't really see that in the trailer
[00:10:48 - 00:10:50] I will say I think this movie looks better than
[00:10:51 - 00:10:54] Anything posting game. I mean that might be true, but
[00:10:56 - 00:11:00] Now I have the question of like well, is Disney like using AI now like I don't know I
[00:11:02 - 00:11:06] Doubt that's in this movie, but it could be into here. That would really sour the movie
[00:11:06 - 00:11:10] I'm not saying that that's what's happening, but like that's a concern for me now
[00:11:10 - 00:11:13] And then like the last thing too is just like I
[00:11:14 - 00:11:18] I have a feeling this movie's we're gonna leave the theater and we feel like man
[00:11:18 - 00:11:21] This kind of had no purpose like we wait and watch an Avengers movie
[00:11:21 - 00:11:26] And this is maybe the most meaningless one. Yeah, so I don't know I
[00:11:27 - 00:11:32] Want the best for this movie, but this trailer seems to be confirming the worst for me
[00:11:32 - 00:11:35] Yeah, I agree again. I mean it just kind of feels
[00:11:36 - 00:11:40] Pointless and it's kind of still feels like they don't know what they're doing. Yeah
[00:11:40 - 00:11:44] I mean that the rumor is right now. No, this is a rumor unconfirmed by
[00:11:45 - 00:11:50] Actual reporters, but it's also a rumor is that this movie is a mess in the edit
[00:11:51 - 00:11:55] The amount of alleged rewrites and reshoots
[00:11:56 - 00:11:58] It have been large and like
[00:12:00 - 00:12:03] Again allegations, but also if that is the case
[00:12:03 - 00:12:08] I'm sure Disney wants to keep that part of it airtight right like if this movie is a mess in the edit
[00:12:08 - 00:12:10] That's a really bad sign
[00:12:10 - 00:12:13] I mean, I already kind of felt like they didn't have a huge plan going into it and
[00:12:14 - 00:12:17] Odds are they didn't have a huge plan going into it and now they're still trying to find the movie
[00:12:20 - 00:12:22] Yep
[00:12:24 - 00:12:29] It's not looking great. Okay, let's let's shift to a positive. Okay part of the conversation
[00:12:29 - 00:12:32] I'm sorry. We've been all storm cloud, but we just call our shot here. I guess
[00:12:34 - 00:12:36] Drew what does this movie have to do
[00:12:36 - 00:12:38] Not even to save itself, but like just a be good
[00:12:39 - 00:12:46] Have a compelling story. I mean, I think at the baseline you have to make us care about these characters. Yeah, and
[00:12:48 - 00:12:50] That's not gonna be really easy to do
[00:12:50 - 00:12:55] I mean, I think we have we care about Falcon to some degree. I guess not Falcon anymore Captain America, whatever
[00:12:56 - 00:13:02] We care about Chris Evans like Bucky. Maybe we care about Bucky. We care about Thor, but I
[00:13:04 - 00:13:05] Mean, yeah, we have to care about Shang-Chi
[00:13:05 - 00:13:09] We have to care about Gambit. We have to care about Yelena. We have to care about Mbaku and
[00:13:12 - 00:13:17] If you went into the street on anyone any random day and said, do you know who Mbaku is?
[00:13:18 - 00:13:22] Actually, Mbaku might be a bad example. Actually, I think a lot of people actually
[00:13:22 - 00:13:30] Who's Mbaku? Oh black panther. I like Mbaku, but like yeah, but if you're like who is Gambit gambit or Yelena
[00:13:30 - 00:13:34] They're probably not gonna know these are all glorified side characters played by famous actors and in cameo performances
[00:13:34 - 00:13:36] not all of them, but like
[00:13:36 - 00:13:42] Gambit was gambit definitely was and now he's a character and everybody loved him. So now we chuck him in Avengers
[00:13:42 - 00:13:45] Just like I don't know man. It feels gimmicky
[00:13:46 - 00:13:52] But okay, this movie to succeed compelling story make it's care about the characters and have a cliffhanger
[00:13:52 - 00:13:54] That is gets people talking for at least a year
[00:13:56 - 00:13:57] I agree I
[00:13:57 - 00:14:00] Think Infinity War did it. Yeah
[00:14:00 - 00:14:04] Doomsday aft has to repeat the formula. I'm going to add one thing. Yeah
[00:14:04 - 00:14:08] I think they got they they have to figure out dr. Doom. I mean, yeah
[00:14:08 - 00:14:13] There has to be compelling reason why it's already Jack and like justify him. Yeah, and I mean
[00:14:13 - 00:14:16] I will say if you wore did a great job of making Thanos
[00:14:17 - 00:14:19] Not a compelling villain, but like
[00:14:20 - 00:14:24] Understandable sympathetic villains where you're like he is worthy of his screen time
[00:14:24 - 00:14:27] Josh Rowling gives a great performance on her like it's good. I
[00:14:28 - 00:14:34] Think they can do it with dr. Doom and doomsday. Will they I don't know I don't know
[00:14:34 - 00:14:36] Yeah, I have no idea
[00:14:36 - 00:14:38] so
[00:14:39 - 00:14:44] It's they're in a pickle if you had to predict the rotten tomato score right now
[00:14:44 - 00:14:48] Oh, okay. This is like a we've never really done this before like what would you say it is?
[00:14:48 - 00:14:50] I also don't really go on rotten tomato. I know
[00:14:51 - 00:14:54] IDV for you. Okay. I'm gonna say
[00:14:55 - 00:14:57] But I am to be a 6.8
[00:14:58 - 00:15:03] You know what I think I'll rock with it because I'm a little bit more unlike the rotten tomatoes
