[00:00:00 - 00:00:05] Also, I think it's stupid that Peter gave back the classes. I feel like that's been talked about on the internet forever
[00:00:05 - 00:00:09] Yeah, it's so dumb like that's so again. That's another nerfing his intelligence moment where you're like
[00:00:10 - 00:00:11] What?
[00:00:11 - 00:00:16] You find you even know this guy. I don't know this guy and you're giving him Peter's pretty gold
[00:00:16 - 00:00:18] Movie
[00:00:27 - 00:00:33] Grant yes, Drew as the home trilogy apologist that you are
[00:00:34 - 00:00:37] Defender yeah, okay. Apologist would be correct. Okay
[00:00:38 - 00:00:44] What are your thoughts listen on potentially in my opinion the worst spider-man movie listen
[00:00:45 - 00:00:48] Audience stole my line fan if you've been around for a while
[00:00:48 - 00:00:54] You may remember a video back in the day where I said far from home was not even bought onto your spider-man
[00:00:54 - 00:00:57] I think you had it top five. I think I had a top five which was bold
[00:00:58 - 00:01:02] Last night I watched far from home, and I realized that there were two paths ahead of me
[00:01:02 - 00:01:05] I can either go down with my ship or
[00:01:06 - 00:01:08] We can be mature and admit when we're wrong
[00:01:09 - 00:01:14] I'm not going down with my ship far from home is a bad spider-man movie. Yes
[00:01:15 - 00:01:17] But
[00:01:17 - 00:01:21] I'm not conceding the argument that it's the worst spider-man movie. I do not think it's the worst
[00:01:21 - 00:01:22] But you think spider-man 3 is worse
[00:01:22 - 00:01:27] I think this is the second worst spider-man movie, but we'll dive into it. We'll get there later. Welcome back to
[00:01:27 - 00:01:28] So my line a fireside film podcast
[00:01:28 - 00:01:33] I'm grant and I'm drew if you're interested in all the other spider-man live-action reviews that we've done
[00:01:33 - 00:01:36] We have a whole playlist of them on our channel. Yep, so hit that subscribe button
[00:01:36 - 00:01:40] Also, I'm gonna say this early in the episode because we usually forget if you have a spider-man hot take
[00:01:40 - 00:01:44] Oh, yes, send that in we are doing a hot takes episode at the end of this marathon
[00:01:44 - 00:01:50] So next week probably we have a ton of hot takes that have already been sent in we're going to talk about all of those
[00:01:50 - 00:01:55] We're doing everything about live-action or sorry everything, but animated spider-man. So only live-action
[00:01:55 - 00:01:58] We're gonna wait for into the spider-verse until
[00:01:58 - 00:02:05] Beyond yes, but enough preamble far from home true. What did you think look I?
[00:02:06 - 00:02:12] Think okay on our homecoming episode yesterday. I said homecoming is a good movie in a bad spider-man movie. I
[00:02:13 - 00:02:16] Still disagree with you on the record, but whatever, but that's fine
[00:02:17 - 00:02:22] Today I think far from home is both a bad spider-man movie and a boring movie. I
[00:02:23 - 00:02:27] Would say yes, I would agree with those statements actually okay no argument
[00:02:28 - 00:02:33] There are a few good moments in here. I agree there are few and far between I agree
[00:02:33 - 00:02:39] This movie is I mean honestly, it's just a superhero movie with spider-man and it's
[00:02:39 - 00:02:44] Like it's not like you could slap any other superhero on this and be like kind of the same thing
[00:02:44 - 00:02:48] This movie leans the most into like at the MCU
[00:02:49 - 00:02:53] Comedy and this is kind of when it was at its peak and it just doesn't
[00:02:54 - 00:02:59] Land I think like it's age poorly whereas. I think homecoming is aged like decently. Well, I agree
[00:03:00 - 00:03:07] This I mean we had just finished in-game when we watched this movie. This was peak MCU and
[00:03:08 - 00:03:10] So I remember watching some theaters and being like, oh, that was good
[00:03:10 - 00:03:15] We're leaving and I low key don't think I've seen it maybe more than once or twice since then
[00:03:15 - 00:03:17] So when I think about the same it had been a while
[00:03:17 - 00:03:21] Yeah, and so I think when I was seeing about far from home
[00:03:21 - 00:03:25] I was like, oh no, it's a fun movie set in Europe, you know
[00:03:25 - 00:03:29] He's trying to kind of like I don't tell MJ that he likes her
[00:03:30 - 00:03:35] Mysterio's a good villain. I thought all of that then I watched this again. I was like oof
[00:03:35 - 00:03:36] movie
[00:03:36 - 00:03:38] It's not that great. I
[00:03:39 - 00:03:41] think
[00:03:41 - 00:03:43] Yeah, I mean, I think I agree with you. I think
[00:03:44 - 00:03:51] All the parts here are worse than homecoming. Yeah. Yeah, I think the setting is relatively interesting
[00:03:51 - 00:03:54] I think this movie looks pretty visually bad. Yeah, it does
[00:03:54 - 00:03:58] like just not that good at all like it has that
[00:03:58 - 00:04:02] Blend MCU look yeah, like I think people associate with the MCU
[00:04:03 - 00:04:05] You'd like it there in Europe. I
[00:04:06 - 00:04:10] Mean, there's like a few shots. I'm like, this is kind of cool that they're in Europe
[00:04:10 - 00:04:14] I like that we're outside of New York for like one movie. I think it's interesting
[00:04:14 - 00:04:16] Yeah, it could have been really interesting
[00:04:16 - 00:04:21] I think it's true and the setting doesn't really play any part at all in this movie. No, not a single part
[00:04:21 - 00:04:24] I think it could have been cool, but it's just like not at all
[00:04:25 - 00:04:27] Here's the biggest things I don't like
[00:04:27 - 00:04:31] And I know that we're in a bigger universe and context matters
[00:04:31 - 00:04:35] So I don't even hate that Peter is grieving Iron Man
[00:04:35 - 00:04:40] Even though I don't like the Iron Man centric storylines. Yeah, like I think that that's healthy
[00:04:40 - 00:04:44] And that's what his character should do in this movie based on what happened in endgame. Sure
[00:04:45 - 00:04:46] I
[00:04:46 - 00:04:52] Don't like Nick Fury. Yeah, Nick Fury is stupid in this like I don't know why he's here. He doesn't make I
[00:04:52 - 00:04:54] mean like
[00:04:54 - 00:04:55] the most
[00:04:55 - 00:04:59] Paranoid person in the world literally they say that in the movie instantly trusts
[00:05:01 - 00:05:06] Quentin Beck when all you had to do is like run a simple DNA test or something and figure out
[00:05:06 - 00:05:10] Oh, wait, this is not Quentin Beck and this is the guy who worked for Tony. No, yeah
[00:05:10 - 00:05:13] That's pretty stupid. It would be so easy to figure out who this guy is
[00:05:14 - 00:05:18] And I know he's not actually Nick Fury, which is also stupid
[00:05:18 - 00:05:21] Yeah, I think that is also a very stupid plot point
[00:05:21 - 00:05:26] But whatever. Yeah, and then Jake Gyllenhaal. I think gives a fun performance
[00:05:26 - 00:05:32] But I don't love Missirio as a villain. No, I would completely agree. I think he's pretty watchable. I
[00:05:33 - 00:05:37] Think he like there's some good sequences. Sure. I think he's
[00:05:37 - 00:05:40] He's not just a placeholder villain. I
[00:05:41 - 00:05:43] guess
[00:05:43 - 00:05:46] But like he's above average maybe yeah
[00:05:46 - 00:05:48] I think Jake Gyllenhaal honestly like
[00:05:49 - 00:05:53] He's the reason why it's a decent villain to watch
[00:05:53 - 00:06:00] Yeah, I agree. I agree. But yeah, I think let's talk really quickly about Iron Man and Spider-Man
[00:06:00 - 00:06:04] Okay, because we didn't really talk about it and homecoming even though that's like a big part
[00:06:04 - 00:06:08] Yeah, we didn't actually that's kind of well, but I think it's worth talking about here because this kind of like
[00:06:09 - 00:06:12] Ends that part of the whole thing. Yeah, that's true
[00:06:13 - 00:06:16] Iron Man isn't really referenced much in No Way Home at all. So like
[00:06:17 - 00:06:21] Peter and Iron Man kind of that whole story arc whatever ends here. I
[00:06:22 - 00:06:25] Think here's my opinion on it. I don't like it
[00:06:26 - 00:06:28] overall, but
[00:06:28 - 00:06:34] It also does make sense in universe that he would idolize Iron Man and see him as a father figure
[00:06:34 - 00:06:37] Like that makes sense in the universe
[00:06:38 - 00:06:39] Yeah
[00:06:39 - 00:06:42] And honestly I'm torn. I think I don't even hate
[00:06:43 - 00:06:45] Iron Man and homecoming
[00:06:45 - 00:06:51] That's not like one of my biggest problems with that movie. I think it's fine. And again, I like that Peter is grieving Iron Man
[00:06:51 - 00:06:56] I think in context it makes a whole lot of sense. It takes up a lot of the movie. It takes up a lot of the movie and
[00:06:59 - 00:07:04] Yeah, I also just think the Edith glasses are kind of a dumb gimmick. Oh my gosh this and like
[00:07:06 - 00:07:10] Homecoming is fine. I think Volter makes sense as a villain, right?
[00:07:11 - 00:07:14] Yeah, I think this movie low-key nerfs Peter's intelligence
[00:07:15 - 00:07:17] Buy a lot
[00:07:17 - 00:07:21] It's like Mysterio doesn't actually pull off like the craziest like
[00:07:22 - 00:07:27] No, curry if that makes sense like if Peter is supposed to be this genius kid, which he is
[00:07:29 - 00:07:31] Like him almost killing Brad
[00:07:31 - 00:07:36] I mean he just gets himself in like these dumb teenage situations where it's like all you had to do
[00:07:36 - 00:07:42] Think for 30 seconds and make another choice and it would have been way better for you. I also think like
[00:07:43 - 00:07:50] Yes, he's a teenager, right? This is also Peter post-ingate. Yeah, he has gone to space and thought exactly
[00:07:50 - 00:07:54] Like if he had made some of these decisions in homecoming, I think I could have been like all right
[00:07:54 - 00:07:58] Whatever, he's kind of done nothing besides show up in Civil War for a little bit
[00:07:58 - 00:08:03] Yeah, like Peter's had a little bit more experience by this point and the drone stuff is really silly
[00:08:04 - 00:08:10] I think like this is trying to mimic some of the Ferris Bueller's day off John Hughes
[00:08:10 - 00:08:14] Vives of like Peter has a secret and he doesn't want anybody to know
[00:08:15 - 00:08:20] So it puts them in funny situations, but I don't think that's executed very well in this movie. No, I think
[00:08:22 - 00:08:24] It is
[00:08:24 - 00:08:29] Again, I mean this movie is lean so hard on comedy and it's not good comedy. Yeah
[00:08:30 - 00:08:37] Did it makes it pretty hard to watch now I want to talk about some things I like, okay? I think and it's really not much
[00:08:39 - 00:08:42] Like I get less seven different things off the dome that I don't like about this movie
[00:08:42 - 00:08:44] but what I do like is
[00:08:46 - 00:08:49] The Spidey sense stuff at the end think it's sick. I think it's sick
[00:08:50 - 00:08:55] I mean the moment at the end when he stops, you know quitting back from shooting him
[00:08:56 - 00:08:57] Anymore
[00:08:57 - 00:09:04] Good great moment. I would say even a good spider-man moment. Honestly to like kind of learn a bit more about how to use his powers
[00:09:04 - 00:09:09] It's a decent. I'll give you that. That's fine. No, listen. I'm not liking this movie at all
[00:09:09 - 00:09:12] I'm just saying that's a decent ish moment and then like
[00:09:13 - 00:09:18] Yes, this movie is about Peter in high school. So from like that perspective, I like him in MJ. I
[00:09:19 - 00:09:22] Don't think she's the best love interest for any of the Peter Parker's
[00:09:23 - 00:09:28] But she's okay in this movie like it. She's a decent high school love interest for Peter right in this country
[00:09:28 - 00:09:34] She's serviceable. I think that's fine. I think Zendaya has a little bit more room to shine in this movie
[00:09:34 - 00:09:36] Compared to homecoming so I like that
[00:09:37 - 00:09:41] Like that. That's I mean, that's kind of it. I agree. I I
[00:09:42 - 00:09:47] Do you think Ned is funny? Yeah, and that is funny. I think when Ned and Betty
[00:09:48 - 00:09:53] Act like so much wiser than they are you can be like, I know people in high school
[00:09:53 - 00:09:59] Who do this who thought that they had it all figured out and they were exactly this way. Um, yeah, I
[00:10:00 - 00:10:05] Think really quick. I think that's why partially I liked these movies when they came out
[00:10:05 - 00:10:08] It's because I was in high. Yeah, that's there when these came out
[00:10:08 - 00:10:12] And I know I mentioned that in homecoming but like part of it is oh, I was in high school
[00:10:12 - 00:10:15] I like being in high school with Peter Parker. That's cool
[00:10:16 - 00:10:20] But to like they capture that vibe and that's really great if you're in high school
[00:10:21 - 00:10:26] If you're not also again, this movie has an ace great. If you're not, it's not really the vibe. Yeah, I agree
[00:10:26 - 00:10:31] This feels very filler in the spider-man mythos and even specifically in
[00:10:32 - 00:10:38] Holland's quad trilogy at this point. We haven't seen brand new day, but there were four movies now
[00:10:38 - 00:10:40] like
[00:10:40 - 00:10:44] This doesn't do anything really this doesn't push Peter Parker's character forward
[00:10:45 - 00:10:48] really at all other than I
[00:10:49 - 00:10:54] Mean yeah, like the only thing this movie does is at the end it revealed Quentin Beck reveals
[00:10:55 - 00:11:01] Peter's identity which is important ginormous. I also like I know you talk a lot about consequences for actions
[00:11:01 - 00:11:04] This is a consequence for Peter's actions
[00:11:04 - 00:11:10] It's not the best, but it is it is something that happens because Peter made decisions. I
[00:11:10 - 00:11:14] Don't think the decisions Peter made were great character decisions
[00:11:14 - 00:11:20] I don't think the way we got there was good at all, but I like that this happens at the end of the movie. I do yeah, I
[00:11:21 - 00:11:23] Think that's fine
[00:11:24 - 00:11:29] Also, I think it's stupid that Peter gave back the glasses. I feel like that's been talked about on the internet forever
[00:11:29 - 00:11:34] Yeah, it's so dumb like that's so again. That's another nerfing his intelligence moment where you're like
[00:11:34 - 00:11:36] What?
[00:11:36 - 00:11:40] You finally even know this guy. I don't know this guy and you're giving him Peter's pretty goal
[00:11:41 - 00:11:42] Yeah, for sure
[00:11:42 - 00:11:48] The other thing that happens is like he gets together with MJ, which is like kind of important. That's important. Sure
[00:11:49 - 00:11:51] but again like
[00:11:51 - 00:11:55] Those are not character things those are plot things and that could have been done
[00:11:56 - 00:12:02] A million ways. I mean, yeah, that's point a point B type stuff that like is it good that that happens?
[00:12:02 - 00:12:08] Yes, but like if you compare that to Peter's journey with MJ in the rainy trilogy like right very different
[00:12:08 - 00:12:12] Again, I know these are set when he's in high school, but like this could have been done better
[00:12:12 - 00:12:18] I Loki think Peter's dynamics with Liz are more interesting than Peter's dynamics with MJ in this movie
[00:12:18 - 00:12:21] Yeah, I kind of agree and I hate saying that I'm not saying that like long term
[00:12:21 - 00:12:25] I like this Peter and MJ iteration, but yeah, I
[00:12:27 - 00:12:29] Didn't love Liz either
[00:12:29 - 00:12:31] Yeah, you did not love it. Okay, I
[00:12:32 - 00:12:34] I
[00:12:34 - 00:12:36] Mean, yeah, this movie is just pretty bad
[00:12:36 - 00:12:41] I think a lot of the humor with the side characters outside of like Ned and MJ
[00:12:42 - 00:12:45] I kind of think flash is a little funny
[00:12:45 - 00:12:50] But I don't think happy and the happy and may stuff is not that good. I think it's stupid
[00:12:50 - 00:12:57] I mean all of the people that are on the trip. It's just like kind of hard to get through the teachers are not funny
[00:12:57 - 00:12:59] No, they're not
[00:12:59 - 00:13:03] Polly thought they were funny, but we'll forgive her for that
[00:13:06 - 00:13:11] This isn't the best movie, but yeah, I mean this movie is fine if you want a basic entertaining
[00:13:12 - 00:13:14] average superhero movie
[00:13:14 - 00:13:17] Barbara home is a great option. This is one and done for me
[00:13:18 - 00:13:22] Even though I've seen it multiple times like you probably only need to watch this one once and remember. Oh
[00:13:23 - 00:13:26] Peter gets with MJ his identity is revealed. Yep
[00:13:27 - 00:13:29] That's that that's that so
[00:13:30 - 00:13:32] Where should we rank it?
[00:13:33 - 00:13:37] Also, if you're in the if you hear some lawnmowers in the background apparently everybody
[00:13:37 - 00:13:40] Yeah, there's like four people mowing the lawn right now. It's like stereo lawnmowers
[00:13:41 - 00:13:46] So sorry about that, but we do film outside. So it's just par for the course and we cannot control everything
[00:13:47 - 00:13:52] Okay, it's fireman rankings stereo lawnmowers. That's hilarious stereo lawnmowers. Yeah
[00:13:53 - 00:13:55] That's what I said on this podcast
[00:13:56 - 00:14:01] Okay, I've conceded a lot to you you have this movie is mid
[00:14:02 - 00:14:06] That's where this movie sits. Yep, I agree. It's borderline bad
[00:14:07 - 00:14:11] But this is not worse than spider-man 3 and I'm sorry. It's just not I
[00:14:12 - 00:14:16] Don't think it's better than the amazing spider-man 2 or homecoming
[00:14:16 - 00:14:21] But if we look at our beautiful rankings list right here, right, which I guess I should read off
[00:14:22 - 00:14:29] Or do you want to do you know off the dome? Yeah, let's try. Okay. We have spider-man 2 at 1. Yes, spider-man 1 at 2. Yes
[00:14:32 - 00:14:34] Tasm, yes
[00:14:36 - 00:14:41] Tasm to yes homecoming. Yes, Remy 3. Yep, okay, I
[00:14:42 - 00:14:46] Think this is above Remy 3 and below everything else
[00:14:47 - 00:14:49] My one argument I want to hear it
[00:14:51 - 00:14:56] If our scale is still this heavily weighted in the spider-man department
[00:14:56 - 00:15:01] I would argue Remy 3 has better spider-man moments and a and a spider-man arc at least
[00:15:01 - 00:15:07] Then far from home. I disagree. I still know like yes, then far from home
[00:15:07 - 00:15:14] Maybe but like I would say spider-man's arc in Remy 3 is equal parts good and bad like it is half and half
[00:15:16 - 00:15:20] I think his arc as a whole is good his execution is terrible
[00:15:20 - 00:15:24] The execution has to factor in here. Yeah, that's probably sure the diner dancing is
[00:15:24 - 00:15:27] It's bad and then you get to say that's a good moment
[00:15:27 - 00:15:32] But like everything up until that is horrible to watch one of my favorite intros we've ever filmed on this channel
[00:15:32 - 00:15:38] Oh, is the spider-man 3 what I just took care. No, when you you like whispered you're like
[00:15:40 - 00:15:44] What if you are a waitress at a jazz bar? I think it's so funny. Oh
[00:15:45 - 00:15:50] I can concede here a spot like spider-man. Oh, I don't know if I can honest
[00:15:51 - 00:15:53] We got okay, you have to remember
[00:15:53 - 00:15:57] Eddie's arc yeah, and spider-man 3 is I'm a jerk. I
[00:15:58 - 00:16:00] Want to one up Peter Parker, right?
[00:16:00 - 00:16:07] And then Peter Parker says go get religion so I go to God and pray to kill Peter Parker
[00:16:07 - 00:16:09] I know and then attempt to kill Peter Parker. I know
[00:16:10 - 00:16:16] Okay, and then I like venom so much that I jump into him like into an explosion with him and I
[00:16:16 - 00:16:20] Yeah, but there's deeper meaning there. No, there's not there is
[00:16:21 - 00:16:23] He liked the anger and the power
[00:16:24 - 00:16:31] It is that it's so bad. It is bad. I'm not saying it's good and then Harry has like no nuance basically I
[00:16:32 - 00:16:38] Mean he's like out the gate is trying to kill spider-man. Yeah, that's probably fair. Okay, uh
[00:16:42 - 00:16:45] Yeah, but okay, what are the what are the spider-man moments in
[00:16:45 - 00:16:47] Far from home
[00:16:47 - 00:16:50] I mean literally sense just a spidey sense stuff at the end
[00:16:51 - 00:16:55] But that's like that elevates it just enough for me to say that it's better than
[00:16:55 - 00:17:00] Rain me three. I think it's like neck and neck. I think I disagree, but I will give it to you. Okay. I
[00:17:00 - 00:17:04] This I will concede on this one my one freebie for the podcast
[00:17:04 - 00:17:11] I think you want every other argument. Okay. All right. That was an infinite conversation about two really bad spider-man movies in my opinion
[00:17:11 - 00:17:13] But thanks for sticking with us on that
[00:17:14 - 00:17:19] How about our stole my line rating our rating system? I know where I sit. I also know where I sit
[00:17:19 - 00:17:24] I'm not as I'm not gonna say avoid at all costs. No, I'm not either, but I think this is
[00:17:24 - 00:17:29] Watch for free on your mom's Disney plus. I agree but watch once
[00:17:30 - 00:17:35] Now well, I probably at some point try to own all the spider-man movies on Blu-ray. Maybe yeah
[00:17:36 - 00:17:39] But that doesn't factor into our official stole my line ranking
[00:17:39 - 00:17:41] Or rating or whatever we call it
[00:17:42 - 00:17:44] So, yeah, I agree
[00:17:44 - 00:17:46] Drew you're at a party. I'm out of party
[00:17:46 - 00:17:50] This is gonna be pretty easy question. I have also been in this situation before. Yeah, no way
[00:17:51 - 00:17:56] With the home trilogy it's a chill birthday party and you don't know a lot of people. Yep
[00:17:57 - 00:17:59] Inspired me and far from home is on the TV
[00:18:00 - 00:18:04] What are you doing? No, I'm gonna watch it. I don't think I need I'm gonna go talk to people
[00:18:04 - 00:18:09] I think I might like hover near the TV towards the end right and that's about it
[00:18:09 - 00:18:10] Yeah
[00:18:10 - 00:18:12] so
[00:18:12 - 00:18:14] That's that if you are a far from home
[00:18:14 - 00:18:21] Stan defender let us know why let us know why you think it's the best spider-man movie and we'll tell you you're wrong in a loving way
[00:18:21 - 00:18:27] We would like to debate if somebody has a genuine argument. Yeah, I mean, there's some positives like
[00:18:27 - 00:18:33] Quentin Beck as watchable, right? I mean this movie is not this movie is just inoffensive and boring
[00:18:33 - 00:18:36] It's not like it's very very worst. Yeah
[00:18:36 - 00:18:43] Like our Peter and MJ that romance sweet in a high school way. Yeah, sure. Yeah, Ned's still funny
[00:18:44 - 00:18:45] so
[00:18:45 - 00:18:48] That's kind of where we land. That's about all she wrote on this one
[00:18:48 - 00:18:52] This is not a lot of talking about here. Uh really quick drew. What do we got coming up next?
[00:18:53 - 00:18:57] Obviously, we're doing no way home tomorrow. Yes, we're also seeing brand-new day early
[00:18:57 - 00:19:02] So so drop a non-spoiler review probably tomorrow morning early soon. So
[00:19:03 - 00:19:05] Um
